Talk To Me In Your Language
A few notes on language, arts and politics.
NOTE 1 :: ON LANGUAGE AND POLITICS
on the fact that Belgian politicians speak either Dutch or French and on the fact that English loanwords are being used more often than a Dutch variant (just think of terms like "the war on drugs")
NOTE 2 :: ON LANGUAGE AND ARTS IN THE PAST
during Belgian history, the struggle between Dutch and French has always been a central topic. For the Flemish people, French was the language of the oppressor. That idea left its mark on a lot of Belgian art.
NOTE 3 :: ON LANGUAGE AND ART TODAY
in visual arts, any language but the visual one is not sufficient. You don't need any language to give meaning to the international art exhibited at "Talk To Me In Your Language" at LAMART OFFSPACE. However, given the fact the participating artists don't speak the same language, English was chosen as the international language
